BijouSky

Overview of a web design project

Project Overview

This project involved designing and building a premium e-commerce website for Bijou Sky, a luxury jewelry and accessories brand targeting an international customer base. The brief called for a clean, elegant storefront built around a diamond-and-gold visual concept with generous white space, cream tones, and muted gold accents that keep the focus entirely on the products.

The platform was developed by TeamX as a complete single-vendor e-commerce solution covering brand identity, UI/UX design, storefront development, cart and checkout, payment and shipping integrations, a full admin panel with role-based access control, and analytics setup.

Key Objectives

The goal was to create a luxury shopping experience that reflects the quality of the brand while keeping the purchasing process smooth and reliable for international customers. The website needed to:
  • Present jewelry and accessories in a premium, minimal visual environment built around the diamond-and-gold brand concept.
  • Deliver fully responsive layouts across desktop, tablet, and mobile with consistent luxury aesthetics at every breakpoint.
  • Provide detailed product pages with multi-image galleries, zoom, variant selection, and clear availability status.
  • Support category and collection-based browsing with sorting and filtering options.
  • Enable guest checkout and customer account-based checkout with order confirmation emails.
  • Integrate the paymennt.com payment gateway for secure card transactions.
  • Display product prices in the visitor’s local currency through multi-currency support Integrate a shipping provider for order delivery management and status tracking from the admin panel.
  • Give the client full control over products, inventory, orders, banners, discount coupons, and static pages through a web-based admin panel.
  • Implement a granular, role-based admin access system managed entirely by the Super Admin without developer involvement.
  • Connect Google Analytics and provide basic sales reporting from the admin panel.
  • Project Management

The project began with brand identity development, producing logo variations, a colour palette, and typography guidelines that formed the visual foundation for the entire website. Once the brand direction was defined and approved, UI/UX design proceeded across all pages and breakpoints, establishing a consistent component library covering product cards, navigation, forms, banners, and buttons.

Development was structured in parallel streams: the public-facing storefront, the cart and checkout flow, payment and shipping integrations, and the admin panel with its role-based access system. Static legal and policy pages were built as editable admin panel content from the start so the client could manage them independently after launch.

Testing covered responsive behaviour across all device sizes, payment and order flow accuracy, multi-currency display, shipping integration, and the full range of admin panel permissions and role configurations.

    Technologies Used

Storefront was built using Next.js for fast page rendering, strong SEO performance, and a smooth browsing experience across devices. The backend was built on Node.js using the NestJS framework, providing a structured and scalable server architecture. PostgreSQL was used as the primary database, with Redis integrated for caching to support fast data retrieval across the storefront and admin panel. Docker was used for containerisation, and pgAdmin was configured for database management.

The paymennt.com payment gateway was integrated for secure card transactions, with payment success and failure handling connected to order status updates. OTO was integrated as the shipping provider for delivery management and order tracking from the admin panel. Multi-currency display was implemented to show prices in the visitor’s local currency based on auto-detection. Google Analytics was connected for traffic, behaviour, and conversion tracking.

    Challenges

Achieving a genuine luxury aesthetic that holds across desktop, tablet, and mobile required more than responsive scaling; every layout decision, spacing choice, and typographic detail had to work at each breakpoint without the premium feel breaking down on smaller screens. The role-based admin access system added design and development complexity: rather than fixed roles, the Super Admin needed the ability to create custom roles, assign them to specific modules, and define granular permission levels per module at any time after launch, all without developer involvement.

Integrating multi-currency display for an international customer base required careful handling of base currency configuration, conversion logic, and consistent price presentation across the browsing and checkout experience. Combining the payment gateway, shipping integration, and order management into a cohesive flow where each step from purchase through to delivery status is reflected accurately in the admin panel also required close coordination across the different integration points.

    Solutions

UI/UX was designed to be responsive, with the luxury visual language built into the component library from the outset rather than adapted from a desktop layout. Cream tones, muted gold accents, and generous white space were applied consistently across every page and component so the aesthetic remains intact regardless of screen size.

The admin access system was built as a fully dynamic permission engine: the Super Admin can create any number of custom roles, assign each role access to specific modules, and set view, add/edit, delete, or export permissions per module independently, all from within the admin panel without developer involvement.

Multi-currency display was configured with the base currency set by the admin and automatic conversion applied for visitor-facing prices, keeping the international browsing experience clean and locally relevant.

The cart, checkout, payment, and shipping flow was built as a connected sequence, allowing order status in the admin panel to be updated throughout payment and shipping stages.

    Results

The completed solution provides Bijou Sky with a premium, fully operational e-commerce store platform that presents the brand’s jewelry and accessories in an environment that matches their premium positioning. International customers can browse collections, filter by category and price, view detailed product pages, and complete purchases in their local currency across any device.

The client manages all product listings, inventory, pricing, promotional banners, discount coupons, and policy pages independently through the admin panel, with full control over staff access through the role-based permission system. Also, the platform is ready to scale as the brand’s product range and customer base grow.

    Conclusion

This project reflects TeamX’s ability to deliver premium e-commerce experiences that balance design quality with operational completeness. The Bijou Sky platform demonstrates that a luxury visual concept and a fully functional, scalable store backend are not competing priorities; with the right architecture and attention to design detail, they reinforce each other. The result is a store that earns customer trust at first glance and supports the business reliably behind the scenes.
